What I’ve Been Reading 8/7/24

Hoping to revive this habit, so here’s some things I’ve been reading lately and maybe I’ll post again next Wednesday.

Another Way To Think About “Conflict” and “Stakes” In Your Fiction
https://buttondown.email/charliejane/archive/another-way-to-think-about-conflict-and-stakes-in/

In fiction, I’ve been reading Mars by Ben Bova. I’m working my way through his “Grand Tour” series. The writing is often old fashioned (not a great thing) and I don’t love Bova’s portrayal of women. This is the second installment I’ve read, and they’re both more recent than some of what’s to come so… we shall see.

I’ve also started reading an ARC of Club Contango, forthcoming in November by Eliane Boey. Just a few pages in so no thoughts as yet, but the premise excited me and I am looking forward to diving deeper.

Club Contango is available for pre-orders here: https://darkmattermagazine.shop/products/club-contango

Pre-ordering books is a nifty thing you can do. Hey, I’ve got one of those too! For 6 more days you can pre-order Serotonin Overload and make me smile.
